Progress Communication - February 2025
After months of hard work, planning, and collaboration, the playground design is ready to go. The playground committee has put in countless hours — from surveys and meetings to fundraising and grant writing — and we are excited to share the progress.

Funding Update
We are nearing the end of our fundraising and brick campaign. To meet our summer 2025 installation and $480,000 project goal, we have $45,000 to still raise through donations and are awaiting confirmation regarding $150,000 in grant applications.
If you have been considering a donation, please donate now, as we will be ending the brick campaign at the end of March. Please help spread the word to anyone who might be interested in supporting the project and leaving a legacy at Earl Grey School.

Playground Design Update
Towards the end of 2024 we finalized the playground design and colours to secure the 2024 pricing and are pleased to share the design with you. Attached please find images of the new playground design and colours.
Key features include a pour-in-place rubber surface for safety and accessibility, along with looped play areas, climbing structures, flying foxes, monkey bars, slides, a spinner, musical elements, imaginative play areas and quiet spaces. Our design prioritizes inclusivity, catering to children of all abilities, including thoughtful considerations for sensory differences, neurodiversity and a range of risk tolerances.
In the coming months we will provide additional images that show the new structure in relation to the North play structure which will stay and the school.

Progress Communication - November 2024
Funding Update
With the success of the playground palooza we have secured $195,000 through our fundraising efforts and have applied for an additional $185,000 in grants, putting us just $100,000 away from our goal of $480,000.
Fundraising efforts continue within the community, local businesses, foundations and grants. With the holidays and end of year upon us we are focused on reaching out to individuals and businesses directly, along with continuing to look for grants and foundation request opportunities. There are a couple of grants with deadlines in the new year that we will apply for as well. A fundraising event may be held in the new year as well to continue to build awareness and engage the community.
Playground Design Update
The playground committee is working with Canadian Recreation Solutions (CRS) for the playground design. Key features include a pour-in-place rubber surface for safety and accessibility, along with looped play, climbing structures, flying foxes, monkey bars, slides, a spinner, musical elements, imaginative play and quiet spaces. Our design prioritizes inclusivity, catering to children of all abilities, including thoughtful considerations for sensory differences, neurodiversity and a range of risk tolerances.
We are excited to share the latest playground design with you and have included images here. We still need to gain approval from the Calgary Board of Education (CBE), however we have followed their guidelines and been in communication with them throughout the design development. While we do not anticipate significant changes to the design, there are still some decisions to make around colour, surface details and the inclusion of some wish list items depending on our total funds raised.
In November we will initiate the approval process of our design with CBE and present to the Earl Grey’s Parent Council to request approval to proceed with a deposit to secure the pricing in the quote for the playground and summer 2025 installation.
